About Robert Yackel
I believe we’re all born with special abilities, mine was art. During my basic education art projects were my favorite, in high school I selected extra curricular courses in art and engineering and architectural drawing. I graduated from the University of Illinois School of Fine Arts with a major in Industrial Design. During college I worked part time in the University’s computer lab. In 1963 I received my BFA and got married. While honeymooning in Colorado the State of Colorado hired me as a computer programmer. The technical information world, family and volunteering put my art interests on hold.
Immersion into visual arts occurred upon my retirement in 1998. I joined both Park Hill Art Club in Denver and Heritage Fine Arts Guild in Littleton. Since then I have participated in over 100 workshops and painted nearly 500 paintings. These activities have taken me to a point where successful paintings come more frequently. Noted workshop instructors that I’ve taken from include: Frank Franceses, Zoltan Szabo, William Condit, Michael Untiedt, Buffalo Kaplinski, Rick Brogan and Stephen Kilborn. Victoria Kwasinski has been extremely influential in my artistic development.
Most of my recent paintings are Southwestern subjects, including adobe churches and buildings with people and human elements. Other subjects include scenes from the Colorado Mountains, aspens in their fall colors, old barns, cars, sliced fruit, lighthouses, covered bridges and realistic landscapes.
It took me six years to enter my first art show; I felt that most of my paintings were not acceptable. My personal rule is never 
to offer a painting for sale unless I like it well enough that I would hang it in my home.
Other creative endeavors include photography and woodcarving – primarily designing, carving and painting Christmas ornaments and Boy Scout neckerchief slides.

I found only this on the web. I was looking for pictures of your paintings. I had seen the one your Mom had in her kitchen and I thought that so good. Good luck, and I will keep checking on here to find more on your paintings. Love Lavon

Your artwork rocks Bob! You have such a creative, colorful style that just makes folks happy. You have mastered what most artist seek throughout their life, and that is to have your own personal artistic signature and voice. Looking forward to your new creations.

I’m in love with your style and subjects! Having lived in the southwest/west my whole life, they truly speak to me! I see you participate in workshops, do you ever offer any yourself? I’d be interested in painting with you!

I was glad that Evelyn and I had a chance to visit with you and Nancy at the Telecom reunion; it was a great trip down memory lane! I have been looking over all your artwork posted on your website and I must say that I am really impressed with your style, use of bold color and subject matter. Your patience and perseverance has paid dividends and I wish you more of the same in the future. Thanks to you, I was able to taste the wonderful world of watercolor and test the depth of my talent. I will always remember taking workshops with you at Heritage and for you suggesting that I join Park Hill. I met so many great artists and had a great time exploring and learning new things.
